Amazon To Produce 'Lord Of The Rings' TV Series
Amazon insiders believe their Tolkien adaptation can be as big a global success as 'Game of Thrones'.
Other TV stations and streaming giants were also sounded out about adapting the books for the small screen, but somehow Amazon managed to get a deal over the finish line.
No doubt both Netflix and HBO will rue the day they missed out on bring Tolkien's books to the small screen.
Amazon are also toying with the idea of spin-off shows too.
Confirming the news that Amazon are now planning to bring 'The Lord of the Rings' books to the screen, Amazon’s head of scripted programming, Sharon Tal Yguado says: “The Lord of the Rings is a cultural phenomenon that has captured the imagination of generations of fans through literature and the big screen."
She adds: “We are honoured to be working with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line on this exciting collaboration for television and are thrilled to be taking The Lord of the Rings fans on a new epic journey in Middle Earth.”
While a representative for the Tolkien estate adds: “We are delighted that Amazon, with its longstanding commitment to literature, is the home of the first-ever multi-season television series for The Lord of the Rings.
“Sharon and the team at Amazon Studios have exceptional ideas to bring to the screen previously unexplored stories based on JRR Tolkien’s original writings,” Galsor added.
