Nas spits bars on new Robin Thicke song, 'Deep'
If you think it sounds like an bizarre combination, you're right.
Robin Thicke has been spending the last few years of his life trying to shake off the controversy that tailed him following his 2013 single 'Blurred Lines'. The hit song underwent everything from gruelling lawsuits to furious social media backlashes because of its lyrical content. To make matters worse, his last album Paula was a resounding flop. It seemed natural that he'd try a different tack when it came to making something new.
The result sees Thicke team up with gritty Queensbridge rapper Nas for a song that feels like two separate entities spliced over the same beat (smooth as that beat is). Nas raps about police brutality, inner city living, and his disillusionment with the American elections while Thicke sings about relationship drama.
It may be a straight-up mismatch lyrically, but Thicke's production holds the two halves together for a song that's decently catchy.
