Thom Yorke to release new solo album this year
Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien revealed Yorke's plans on a recent podcast. Yorke's last solo LP was released in 2019.
Thom Yorke has a solo album in the works.
Yorke's plans were revealed by Radiohead bandmate Ed O'Brien in a podcast interview with Consequence of Sound. In the interview, O'Brien stated Yorke had music coming out "later in the year.”
O'Brien recently announced his own solo album Blue Morpho, due out Friday, May 22 via Transgressive Records.
"What’s so lovely is it feels they both can coexist," O'Brien said of balancing band duties with solo work. "The Radiohead thing can go out and tour — and that’s the mothership, I guess, for all of us. But we’ve got these little satellites."
"You know, there’s the Smile, and Thom’s got a solo album that’s going to come out later in the year, I think. And Jonny’s got his stuff, and you know, Philip [Selway]’s got his stuff, and Colin [Greenwood]’s playing with Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds."
Radiohead frontman Yorke has embarked on plenty of other projects over the years, including three solo LPs and two film soundtracks. His last solo album was 2019's Anima.
Last May, he released a collaborative album with Mark Pritchard titled Tall Tales. Read our review of the album here.
Radiohead recently rebuked U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for the use of their song 'Let Down' in a promotional video on social media.
The band played their first shows in seven years last fall.
