Christy Moore & Eamon Dunphy confirmed for Aung San Suu Kyi gig
65s For Burma is taking place in the National Concert Hall.
A diverse array of talent will be taking to the boards in the National Concert Hall on June 19 to celebrate the 65th birthday of incarcerated Burmese activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi.
Confirmed so far are Christy Moore, Eamon Dunphy, Fiachra Trench, Carmel McCreagh, Deirdre Purcell, Brendan Graham, Niall Toner, Noel Eccles and Moving Hearts man Keith Donald who’s masterminding the 65s For Burma gig.
“As a member of Burma Action Ireland, I always felt a connection with Aung San Suu Kyi because we are the same age,” Donald reflects. “Then I realised that I knew several people who would also be 65 this year. The idea for a concert to support her and the cause of a free and democratic Burma was then a no-brainer, even for an ould fella! The fact that her birthday falls on a Saturday when there's not much on in the World Cup means that the gods are smiling on this concert! Aung San Suu Kyi is the Mandela of the 21st Century. Her situation serves to remind us that we should be grateful for our freedom and do whatever we can to help others achieve it.”
Tickets are available now from www.nch.ie priced between €20 and €45.
