Neil Hannon will be honoured in November
The Divine Comedy will be the latest recipients of the Oh Yeah Legend Award, it has been announced.
The honour is reserved for only the most iconic and influential figures in Northern Irish music, with the likes of Terri Hooley, The Undertones and Therapy? among previous winners.
Of course, Hot Press didn't need convincing that Neil Hannon deserves to be among that illustrious company, with around 25 years worth of top-notch material under his belt. And we certainly don't need to be told twice to mark our diaries for November 14, when the man himself celebrates receiving the award with a greatest hits performance at Mandela Hall, Belfast.
The newly-minted legend says: “I am amazed and humbled to be receiving this honour. There is nothing more gratifying than recognition from your homeland, and I’m very much looking forward to playing some songs and seeing some familiar faces at the Mandela Hall.”
Taking place as part of the Sound of Belfast programme, the presentation will be preceded by the awarding of the NI Music Prize, the gong handed out for the Northern Irish album of the year. Tickets for the event, priced at £12, are available now.
