Ed Sheeran releases music video for latest single 'Old Phone'
Check out the new single from upcoming album Play below
Ed Sheeran has released the music video for his latest single ‘Old Phone’, the second track from his highly anticipated album Play, which is due to be released on September 12 via Gingerbread Man Records/Atlantic Records.
Directed by longtime collaborator Emil Nava, the video captures the weight of rediscovered memories through the lens of Sheeran’s own experiences and those of his fans.
In an introduction, Sheeran explains the inspiration behind the track: uncovering text messages and photos on an old phone that stir memories of lost loved ones.
The video brings that concept to life through Sheeran’s creation of the Old Phone Pub in Ipswich, Massachusetts, a venue where fans were invited to share content from their old devices.
“I thought I’d build a pub somewhere, and do a gig, and I put it out there to my fans, and said: do you want to come to this gig, go on your old phone and find a message that means a lot to you, or a video that means a lot to you” explains Sheeran.
The video mixes footage of Sheeran singing and behind-the-scenes moments with fans. It culminates in an intimate live performance at the pub.
Sheeran had previously teased the track at a surprise performance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and in a duet with Noah Kahan at Santa's Pub in Nashville.
