Katie Melua: UK's best selling artist
Belfast had cause to celebrate last week when their adopted daughter, Katie Melua, was confirmed as 2005’s best-selling female artist in the UK.
The “albums shifted” top 5 is:
1. Katie Melua – 1.076 million
2. K.T. Tunstall – 1.023 m
3. Mariah Carey – 969,270
4. Kelly Clarkson – 952,225
5. Madonna – 833,214
Year-end also brought good news for Enya who, in a mere 30 days, sold 3.5 m copies of Amarentine worldwide. The collection has gone top 10 in no fewer than 17 countries, earning Ms. Brennan eight platinum and eight gold discs along the way.
An impressive hat-trick of Irish success stories is completed by American trade bible, Billboard, conferring ‘Top World Artists’ and ‘Top World Albums’ status on Celtic Woman.
The moral being that there’s always room for one more version of ‘Danny Boy’!
