Leanne Moore, winner of this year’s You’re a Star, has shot straight to No. 1 in Ireland with her debut single. Plus, more chart news.
The single, 'On Wings', was released to raise awareness of the unnecessary deaths annually on our roads due to speeding alone. The next highest new entry is the Ting Tings' 'Shut Up And Let Me Go', which is at No. 35, with Westlife's 'Something Right' debuting at No. 50.
Leanne was declared winner of You’re a Star in March. Whereas a number of previous winners of the competition have floundered, the success of the single has at least assured Leanne of a successful and profile-raising start to her career. The single is released on the Vibe ATC label.
“Myself and all the production team wish to congratulate Leanne on her no. 1 single," Larry Bass, Executive Producer of You’re a Star commented, on receiving the news. "It is fantastic to see another star born from the hit series You’re a Star.”
*Coldplay's Viva La Vida remains at No. 1 in the Irish album charts. The highest newcomers are Sigur Ros with Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endlaust. Damien Dempsey's The Rocky Road continues to perform well, holding down the No. 6 slot with The Jonas Brothers being the next highest new entry with their eponymous album.
In what has been a good week for Irish music, the posthumous Christie Hennessy DVD Messanger Boy – The Two Of Us also debuted at No. 1. The DVD is released on the Universal Ireland label, reflecting the long-standing relationship of the label MD Dave Pennefather with the late singer.
