Wolf Alice announce new album The Clearing ahead of surprise Irish shows
Listen to 'Bloom Baby Bloom' – the first new single from the band in three years – below.
As they return with their long awaited new single 'Bloom Baby Bloom', Wolf Alice have confirmed that their fourth studio album, The Clearing is also on the way – and is set to be released on August 29.
News of the album – which will be the Mercury Prize-winning band's first release since signing to Sony Music – comes just ahead of Wolf Alice's run of surprise, intimate Irish shows, taking place in in Set Theatre, Kilkenny (May 19); Cyprus Avenue, Cork (May 20); and Dolan's Warehouse in Limerick (May 21).
The Clearing was written in Seven Sisters and recorded in LA with Grammy Award-winning producer Greg Kurstin – and is being described as a 'truly timeless record'. It follows Wolf Alice's 2021 album Blue Weekend, released via their previous label, Dirty Hit.
'Bloom Baby Bloom', meanwhile, is an 'ode to growth, evolution and expansion in life, music and art'.
“I wanted a rock song, to focus on the performance element of a rock song and sing like Axl Rose, but to be singing a song about being a woman,” Wolf Alice's Ellie Rowsell says of the single. “I’ve used the guitar as a shield in the past, playing it has perhaps been some way to reject the 'girl singer in band' trope, but I wanted to focus on my voice as a rock instrument so it’s been freeing to put the guitar down and reach a point where I don’t feel like I need to prove that I’m a musician.”
