Who Will Remain Standing
Enya-rock concept album about living in Kildare (I think)
The lack of a question mark in the title suggests a statement of fact: “Melophobia, who will remain standing.” That sounds very tiring to me – there’s nothing like a comfortable chair of an evening – but there’s a hint of ambition in there too. Possibly this stubborn refusal to sit explains why Melophobia seem to shift restlessly on their feet as they expertly play their mid-tempo Enya- influenced rawk. It’s all about “atmosphere” and literally reverberates with tastefully-played echoey rock guitar, “heavy” drums, atmospheric keys, pianos-of-great-portent, and tortured Eddie Vedder-style vocals, and features lyrics like, “faces are all the same” and “the material world is living in our minds”. Like me, Melophobia are from Kildare, so I think I know what they’re getting at. Not my thing, really.
Key Track: ‘In the Firing Line’
