WATCH: Patti Smith, Michael Stipe, Joan Baez and more sing 'People Have The Power'
The performance was filmed in honour of New York City's Climate Week 2020, and Pathway to Paris’ sixth anniversary.
Patti Smith, Michael Stipe, Joan Baez, Cyndi Lauper and more participated in a virtually-performed cover of Smith's 'People Have The Power'.
The performance was released to celebrate the sixth anniversary of Pathway to Paris – a nonprofit co-founded by Smith’s daughter Jesse Paris Smith – which aims to facilitate and enact the Paris Agreement by combating climate change. The clip also urges American citizens to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming general election.
The video features guest artists from 25 countries, 46 cities, and six continents, including Lenny Kaye, Tenzin Choegyal, Ben Harper, Tony Hawk, environmentalist Bill McKibben, Stella McCartney, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Nick Zinner, and the Strokes’ Nikolai Fraiture.
