Angela Scanlon to take over Sara Cox's Drivetime slot on BBC Radio 2

Angela Scanlon is set to take over as the presenter of the BBC Radio 2 Drivetime show after hosting the programme earlier this year.

The Meath presenter will replace Sara Cox, who is moving to the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, on the programme, which runs weekdays from 4 pm to 7 pm.

She said it was "properly exciting" to be hosting the station's show from November.

"Millions of people, all having completely different days, piling into the same conversation for a few hours - what a strange and lovely thing!" she continued.

Scanlon said she found out she had got the job while buying her friend a present in the baby section of John Lewis, leading to suspicions she was going on Cox's show to announce a pregnancy.

"It hasn't fully felt real until this point," she added. "Now I guess is the time; some ideas are bubbling away in my head, but I just want it to be all about the listeners."

She was among several people who filled in after Cox vacated the Drivetime slot in May, including Joel Dommett, Jason Manford, Ellie Taylor, Alex Jones and Gary Davies.

Further changes at Radio 2 will see Ben Earle take over from Bob Harris as the presenter of The Radio 2 Country Show, which airs Thursdays from 9 pm to 10 pm, after Harris, who has presented the show since 1990, stepped down last year due to health issues.
