David McSavage coming to 3Olympia Theatre with Says I To You
David McSavage's newest show has been influenced by the recent death of his father, TD David Andrews.
Comedian David McSavage will be performing at the 3Olympia Theatre with his show Says I To You on November 27. The satirist is best known for creating the RTÉ show The Savage Eye, which ran for 4 years and was nominated for an IFTA Award.
McSavage has been called an 'anarchic, no-filter' comedian and compared to Larry David. He calls himself 'Ireland's most fearless satirist'.
According to McSavage, whose legal name is David Andrews, the recent death of his father has affected his repertoire. David Andrews Senior was a TD for Fianna Fáil and Minister for Foreign Affairs. McSavage's brother Barry is also a member of that party, while their cousin is Ryan Tubridy, a former presenter on The Late Late Show.
The usual sharp commentary on Irish culture and prominent figures remains, but the 'ignominious tragic/comic drama' surrounding his father's death reportedly dominates Says I To You.
McSavage has defended his sometimes controversial sketches on the grounds that cancel culture and political correctness are threats to comedy. When RTÉ would not air a sketch about nuns, McSavage complained they were being dictatorial and limiting freedom of speech.
McSavage has also been in several movies, including Cavalry (2014) starring Brendan Gleeson.
Tickets to Says I To You at 3Olympia go live this Wednesday, September 30 at 10 a.m. here.
