The London singer says she was "victim-shamed" by the police
Lily Allen has spoken about her seven year ordeal with an obsessed fan that broke into her apartment as she slept. In an interview with 'BBC Newsnight', Allen said that she felt 'let down' by the authorities during the process.
Allen was contacted by an officer after an interview with The Observer newspaper was published detailing her stalking nightmare. The police man suggested that other victims may not come forward because she spoke out about the incident. Then, a visibly shaken Allen, read an email on Newsnight she had received from the police. Lily labelled the email as 'victim-shaming and victim-blaming'.
"As you know, there have been press reports suggesting that you were dissatisfied with the response you received, she said tearfully. "Further, due to the high profile of this matter, I fear other victims of similar crimes may have read the story and now may not have the confidence in us to report such matters. As such, it is really important that I can understand what, if anything, went wrong during the investigation. I was saddened to hear of this report, so I would like to hear your views on what we could do better."
