WATCH: Coldplay’s New Video

That’s right. They’re back.

Coldplay have pulled a preverbal Beyoncè and released a surprise track online.

The song is called ‘Midnight’ and it seems a real departure from previous efforts. Full of ambient electronica and crazy vocoder work, it seems all that time spent with Kanye West may have rubbed off on Martin.

It is accompanied by an eerie video set in a forest, with plenty of camera trickery and spooky effects that capture a side of Coldplay that’s been infused with the Blair Witch Project. The video was directed by Mary Wigmore.

Who knows what this is, it could be a new album track, a standalone single, or are they deceiving us with crazy video tricks and this is in fact just a ruse.

We shall find out this year it seems.
