Unsane to descend on Dublin
New York noisemakers Unsane are Dublin-bound in June, with Liverpudlians The Dead 60s also scheduling a Whelan's date
If it's "a cold, ugly urban synthesis of screaming, distorted vocal howls, gargantuan bass, strangled guitar wranglings and regimented drum assaults" you're after, look no further than Unsane who play Whelan's, Dublin on June 24.
Products of the same underground New York scene that spawned Helmet and The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, the band have just gathered all their best bits together on Lambhouse (Unsane 1991-1998).
Also upcoming at Whelan's on June 5 are The Dead 60s, a Liverpool trio who are redolent of The Clash in their more dubwise moments.
"We want to make a social comment," states bassist Charlie Turner. "Our song titles should be graffitied on every wall in the country. ‘You’re Not The Law’, ‘Too Much TV’, ‘Riot Radio’, they’d all look great up there. We’re interested in sloganeering, we’re not interested in proper songwriting – at least not in the conventional sense."
