D4vd arrested under suspicion of murdering a teenage girl found in his car
The body of a 14-year-old girl was found in the trunk of his car last September.
American singer David Burke, known professionally as D4vd, has been arrested in Los Angeles in connection with the murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. The 21-year-old artist is currently being held without bail, with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office yet to decide on filing charges.
Burke became a suspect more than two months after Rivas' remains were discovered on September 8 in the trunk of his impounded Tesla. The cause of death has not been made public, but authorities are treating the case as a homicide.
Following the discovery and identification of the remains, Burke cancelled all upcoming North American and European tour dates, including a planned show in Dublin.
D4vd rose to prominence in 2022 when his song 'Romantic Homicide' became a viral hit on TikTok. His other works include the EPs Petals To Thorns and The Lost Petals, and his debut album Withered. He has also collaborated with artists such as Kali Uchis, Laufey, and 21 Savage.
Certain aspects of his work have drawn scrutiny, including a song titled 'Celeste,' reportedly posted to SoundCloud under his name. The lyrics, feature lines such as, "nobody ever caught me but I spoke too soon in the back of a police car / I ain’t telling nothing, do the same if they ask you about her". His merchandise also often featured death-related imagery, such as a bloodstained shirt (since removed from his website) and stage props like a casket and guestbook.
In response to the news, Kali Uchis removed their joint song 'Crashing' from streaming services, while Crocs and Hollister Co. pulled promotional content featuring Burke, pending the investigation's outcome.
