D4vd named as target of investigation into Celeste Rivas’ death
The teenager’s body was found in the the singer’s Tesla back in September
D4vd has been named as the target of a grand jury investigation into the death of Celeste Rivas, who was found dead in the singer’s car back in September, new court documents show.
The body of the 14-year-old was found in a severe state of decomposition in the front boot of a vehicle registered to David Anthony Burke, also known as D4vd.
The newly released filings were unveiled after Burke’s family were summoned by a California court to testify before the grand jury, and reportedly ought to avoid travelling from their home in Texas.
They state that a grand jury investigation is pending, and report that the singer is being treated as the target of the investigation.
According to NBC News, the pending investigation alleges that Burke “may be involved in the death” and that Rivas “may have been the victim of foul play.”
Sources also confirmed to NBC News that while the singer is a suspect, he has not been arrested or charged.
D4vd has not commented on the case, but his representatives previously said he was cooperating with police.
In September, Rivas' mother identified the body as her daughter's, and told TMZ that her daughter had been dating someone named "David" before her disappearance.
Later, Rivas' brother told NBC Los Angeles the family was aware Celeste knew Burke and that she was on her way to see a movie with him just before she disappeared.
The Sun reported that a song titled 'Celeste' had been posted onto SoundCloud and credited to D4vd. Lyrics in 'Celeste' (Including, "nobody ever caught me but I spoke too soon in the back of a police car / I ain’t telling nothing, do the same if they ask you about her") as well as his other work have now been brought into question due to their questionable themes.
Burke is best known for his TikTok viral songs 'Romantic Homicide' and 'Here With Me', along with his anthem for the video game Fortnite and collaborations with musicians Kali Uchis, Hyunjin (Stray Kids), Laufey and 21 Savage.
