D4vd identified as suspect in death of teenage girl found in his car
Burke cancelled all of his planned international tour dates, including a show in Dublin, when the investigation was launched.
Singer-songwriter D4vd has reportedly been named as a suspect in the death of Celeste Rivas, over two months after her body was found in his car.
On September 8, Los Angeles police discovered heavily decomposed human remains in the boot of an impounded Tesla registered to the 20-year-old singer, whose real name is David Anthony Burke. The local medical examiner later confirmed the body to be that of 15-year-old Rivas, who was reported missing on April 5, 2024.
Police have not released a cause of death, but said in early September that it is considered a homicide. At the time, police said Burke was cooperating with their investigation.
According to reporting from NBC4 Investigates, police department sources have now said Burke has not been cooperative in the investigation.
Police sources reportedly told the channel Burke has now been identified as a suspect in Rivas' death, adding that Burke likely helped in dismembering and disposing of her body.
At the time of writing, no charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
Burke cancelled all of his planned US and Europe tour dates, including a show in Dublin, when the investigation was launched. At the time of writing, has not commented publicly about the investigation.
Local news reported police searched a Hollywood Hills residence previously occupied by Burke as part of the investigation, during which they confiscated a computer and various other pieces of evidence.
According to SFGate, the property's landlord said Burke and his manager were staying at the Los Angeles property until just before the police search.
In September, Rivas' mother identified the body as her daughter's, and told TMZ that her daughter had been dating someone named "David" before her disappearance.
Later, Rivas' brother told NBC Los Angeles the family was aware Celeste knew Burke and that she was on her way to see a movie with him just before she disappeared.
The medical examiner identified a tattoo on Rivas' right index finger reading "shhh...". Recent photos of Burke show a matching tattoo, though it is a popular design among celebrities including Rihanna and Lindsay Lohan.
The Sun reported that a song titled 'Celeste' had been posted onto SoundCloud and credited to d4vd. Lyrics in 'Celeste' (Including, "nobody ever caught me but I spoke too soon in the back of a police car / I ain’t telling nothing, do the same if they ask you about her") as well as his other work have now been brought into question due to their questionable themes.
His merchandise and tour frequently contain imagery related to death; A shirt designed to appear bloodstained has since been pulled from his website, and his tour props include a casket and guestbook set up at the venue for fans to interact with.
Burke is best known for his TikTok viral songs 'Romantic Homicide' and 'Here With Me', along with his anthem for the video game Fortnite and collaborations with musicians Kali Uchis, Hyunjin (Stray Kids), Laufey and 21 Savage.
Following the identification of the remains, Kali Uchis removed their collaborative song 'Crashing' from streaming services. Replying to a fan's comment on Instagram, she said Burke was "not my friend" and added "I did a song with him which is currently in the process of being taken down given today’s disturbing news."
Crocs and Hollister Co. also removed promotional content featuring Burke while awaiting the results of the investigation.
