Hot Chip announce ninth album and Dublin performance
Lifting its name from Dorothy's famous line in The Wizard of Oz, the new album suggests the group are attempting to find their way home.
Hot Chip have announced their ninth album, A Long Way From Kansas, alongside a headline show in Dublin.
The performance will take place at 3Olympia Theatre, Dublin, on Thursday, March 4 2027.
News of the album - set for release on January 8 - came with its first single, 'Random Violence', a tribute to one half of club duo Optimo, Keith McIvor, who passed away in September 2025.
"Last year in September our old friend and brilliant DJ Keith McIvor of Optimo in Glasgow passed away after a diagnosis of an inoperable brain tumour a few months earlier," said Joe Goddard.
"He largely inspired the words of the song. He was a passionate music lover and a staunch believer in socialism. Many of the words relate directly to his death and to memories of being in Sub Club in Glasgow where we met 20 years ago."
A Long Way From Kansas follows Hot Chip's appearance in the second season of Netflix's Beef earlier this year, as the band also celebrated the 20th anniversary of their second album, The Warning in May.
"A Long Way From Kansas reflects the general sense that the world we live in - the world we were making our record in - is particularly harsh, discordant, violent and depressing," said Alexia Taylor.
"Maybe none of that's new, and that doesn't mean that every song is talking about the world and politics and genocide, but it was an unavoidable backdrop while making the music. Distortion came to be a bit of a watchword for the whole record."
Tickets for the Dublin performance go on sale here, Friday, October 23 at 10 am.
