U2 wow Cannes audience

Bono et al made up for their late arrival - caused by a delayed Dublin to France plane - by performing a ten-minute slot on the Croisette beachfront promenade in front of the Palais, where their film premiere was being readied.
The black-tie crowd waiting for the showing broke the facade of formality by cheering, dancing and joining in with 'Vertigo' and 'Where The Streets Have No Name'.
Bono's French lessons came in handy - he thanked the audience in French and made a reference to the 60th anniversary of the film festival when he yelled "Bon anniversaire!".
They then headed in to join the audience for the film, which records the band's famous Vertigo tour in 2006. Ever progressive, the band's film uses the latest 3D technology, and uses 3D specs that are more like sunglasses than those olde paper travesties.
The band's appearance marks a successful year for the Irish at Cannes - Garage, by director Lenny Abrahamson and writer Mark O'Halloran who were also behind Adam And Paul, was shown at the prestigious Director's Fortnight, and Duke Special performed at the Irish Reception which showcased new Irish cinema.
