Fire destroys main stage at Tomorrowland festival
The festival is still set to take place as planned.
A fire has completely destroyed the main stage at the Tomorrowland electronic dance music festival in Boom, Antwerp, Belgium, just one day before the event was set to start.
According to posts on Tomorrowland's website, there were no injuries and the festival is still on.
"We are focused on finding solutions for the festival weekend," said organisers. "No other parts of the festival venue, stages or areas were impacted."
About 400,000 people are expected to attend the event over its two weekends, with many planning to camp at the festival's DreamVille campsite. Organisers say the campsite will still open as planned.
DJs and electronic musicians such as David Guetta, Lost Frequencies, Armin Van Buuren and Charlotte de Witte are set to perform at the festival.
"This wasn’t just a stage. It was a living, breathing world." said organisers. "From the very first sketch on a blank page, to countless hours of conceptual design, artistic collaboration, engineering, crafting, building, every single piece of Orbyz carried part of our soul."
The fire has been extinguished and firefighters have left the scene. According to the local fire department, the stage included fireworks which were set off during the blaze, which began on Wednesday.
