Tunng: Turbines
Londoners tick all the boxes...
Tunng have been around long enough to have honed a distinctive sound and amass a sizeable cult following. Turbines has a loose conceptual theme, with the band ‘exploring’ a mysterious fictional village.
Opener ‘Once’ rolls in with lulling harmonies and clever piano/guitar interplay, while the evocative ‘Trip Trap’ showcases the band’s skill in blending folk, rock and electro. There are moments of self-indulgence though. ‘By This’ and ‘Follow Follow’ both seem overcooked, though they get the balance right on the exquisite ‘Bloodlines’. Solid but probably not the crossover hit needed at this stage of their career.
Key Track: 'Bloodlines'
