Trump "seriously considering" presidential pardon for Sean 'Diddy' Combs
According to Trump administration sources, the question of a pardon for Diddy has advanced from "just another Trump weave to an actionable event."
U.S. President Donald Trump is now "seriously considering" giving Sean 'Diddy' Combs a full presidential pardon, according to new reports.
On July 2, the rapper and record executive was found guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution after an eight-week sex trafficking trial. Before the verdict arrived, Trump publicly entertained the notion of a pardon when asked about Combs.
In a new development, a Trump administration source told Deadline that a presidential pardon for Combs is now being "seriously considered."
According to Deadline, White House insiders said the issue of Combs' conviction has been raised from "just another Trump weave to an actionable event" after the July 2 verdict.
Nevertheless, the sources attested that no decision on the matter is set in stone until Trump signs official documents.
On May 30, Trump had previously said he "would certainly look at the facts if I think somebody was mistreated, whether they like me or don’t like me" regarding a pardon for Combs.
Before Combs endorsed former U.S. President Joe Biden in 2020, he was a supporter of Trump. Combs and Trump have been familiar with each other for decades, often meeting in the same New York celebrity social circles, with Trump calling Combs "a good friend" in 2012.
Speaking to Aubrey O’Day, former singer with Danity Kane (an American pop group signed to Bad Boy Records, the label Combs founded), Trump reportedly said Combs was "a good guy, I’m going to stick up for him."
Combs has been repeatedly denied a bond of $50 million (€43.6 million) and release from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York. He faces a maximum sentence of ten years in prison.
Combs is set to receive his sentencing on October 3.
