Diddy's music streams rise following arrest and indictment
Sean "Diddy" Combs’ discography has seen an increase in streams despite his charges of sex crimes
Industry data has revealed a 18.3% streaming increase on the music of Sean Combs aka Diddy, Puff Daddy or P Diddy. This streaming jump is in the wake of the rapper's arrest last week, on charges of sex crimes.
Berklee College professor George Howard spoke to the Associated Press about the matter. He says the streaming increase is expected. "Music just becomes another piece of information as people try to comprehend the atrocities," Howard said.
"The natural curiosity that these types of charges evoke makes sense. It’s like driving by a car crash. People want to look."
Sean Combs is facing charges for federal sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution.
Last week, a Manhattan federal court alleged that Combs “abused, threatened, and coerced women and others around him to fulfil sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct."
In March 2024, federal agents staged a raid on two of the rapper's homes, seizing narcotics and more than 1,000 bottles of baby oils and lubricant.
With a growing number of alleged victims coming forward, Combs has pleaded "not guilty" to charges.
