Track of the Day: Siobhán Franks - ‘Bakers Corner’

Dublin indie singer-songwriter, Siobhán Franks, has released her latest single ‘Bakers Corner’.

Her new track is soothing and reminiscent of young love. This tender ballad explores the feeling and innocence of new love.

On her Instagram, Franks writes how the song is about a pub in Dublin near where she grew up. However, it has since closed down due to the development of apartments in its place, forever changing the community.

“It is the landmark of my growing up years hence the title of the song,” Franks writes. “This song describes my walk to the local corner shop to get cigarettes, a trip that defines my youth.”

In ‘Bakers Corner’, Franks repeats the line “I think about you when you’re not around,” which reflects the vulnerable state of falling for someone that everyone can relate to. This pop style song paired with her powerful lyrics create a song that is both heartwarming and nostalgic.

Even the cover art of the single is nostalgic as it depicts a young Franks and her brother at Legoland.

Franks says how, “nostalgia is a common theme throughout my songs, I always hope the listener gets something out of it. If I feel nostalgic writing or listening to a songs storyline, I’m instantly attached to it.”
