Track of the Day: Shibashi ft. Candi Staton - 'Open My Eyes'

Alongside the new single, the Brazilian-born, Belfast-based musician dropped his self titled EP, Shibashi, blending alternative pop, disco, and electronic sounds.

Musician Shibashi, aka Gigi Monterro, just dropped his newest pop anthem ‘Open My Eyes’, featuring legendary disco queen, Candi Staton.

When writing the song, Shibashi only had one person in mind for the vocals, dreaming of a collaboration with the 'You Got The Love' singer.

The music video features Candi singing and dancing whilst original rave footage plays in the background, adding to the elated emotions of the track.

When asked about the experience, Candi stated that "'Open My Eyes' is a really different song for me. I've sung a lot of different styles of music in my career, but I don't think I've ever done a song like this one.

I was very flattered that Shibashi wanted me to sing with him and I think it turned out great. It’s upbeat and it was a lot of fun to sing. I hope my fans and Shibashi’s fans love this little musical marriage as much as I do.”

As if one grooving track wasn't enough, Shibashi delighted fans by dropping his self titled debut EP, featuring previously released tracks 'All The Lights' featuring Aoife Whenyoung and 'We Were Young' starring Chlöe Howl.

The EP also features new songs 'Princes' and 'Feels So Right' featuring Eve Birtwhistle.

“With this EP I wanted to create a fun, upbeat blend of alternative pop mixing hi life, disco and electronica," Shibashi stated.

"The EP’s lyrics navigate through love, heartbreak, friendship and loss, with stellar vocal collaborations throughout, including soul royalty Candi Staton."

Famously shy of the spotlight, Shibashi’s reputation within the underground dance community is far from buried.

Playing live sets as far as Rio, Ibibiza, Berlin, and Bangor, the globetrotting pioneer is internationally recognised as one of the industry's finest in terms of high quality collabs.

His highly anticipated debut EP transports listeners to his iconic DJ sets over the years, bringing the same energy and good times to the comfort of their own homes.
