Track of the Day: Piglet - 'Mill'
Raised in Belfast but based in London, Charlie Loane has emerged as a compelling voice after fronting past project Great Dad.
Today's Hot Press Track of the Day comes from piglet, the solo project of Irish songwriter and producer Charlie Loane (AKA Piglet).
Piglet unveiled their latest track, 'mill', via South London label Double Dare back in April of this year. Working as part of DIY electronics duo Great Dad saw the creative explore themes of queer/trans experience.
The arrival of their debut solo EP as Piglet, alex’s birthday, in 2020 revealed an artist fully forging their own path in the music industry and within their personal life. Two collaborative tracks with Porridge Radio, 'Let's Not Fight!' and 'Strong Enough', were also released in February.
Combining woozy lo-fi beats (think Alex G) with clever lyricism, 'Mill' marks a triumphant, homespun ode to self-acceptance and personal fluidity.
"The song 'mill' is about how my understanding of my own transness/queerness has evolved and how much better I've felt since I realised that my gender and sexuality don't have to be easily definable and unchanging," Loane says in a statement.
"Massive love and thanks to the people who helped me understand and love myself, to the trans people who came before us and created the spaces that we now occupy, and to every trans person who's just getting up and doing it every day, you're gorgeous."
