This One Girl
SMARTER THAN THE AVERAGE BEARS
Inhabiting a similar musical territory to those effervescent sad-core types Los Campesinos!, Norwich trio Hello Bear’s debut album is a hook-laden effort full of sugary riffs and spiky lyrics that will appeal to fans who love broken-hearted indie pop and comic books. Tracks like ‘I’ll See Your Dragon Punch And Raise You A Spider-Man’ and the Scott Pilgrim-indebted ‘She’s Got Some Battle Scars Dude’ and ‘Well, Aren’t You Pleased As Punch?’ boast more fizz than a can of Fanta shaken by Superman. While at times the “all girls are evil” schtick can get a little tired, for the most part, this record is an enjoyable romp.
