They bang the drums
Zildjian celebrate their 380th birthday this Sunday with an, ahem, bash at the TBMC
September 21 is International Zildjian Day and, accordingly, loud celebrations will be staged by the Irish Drum Academy on Sunday afternoon at the Temple Bar Music Centre.
Zildjian Days has been held all over the world, and the Dublin event promises to an exciting day out for drummers and drum enthusiasts alike. Rab Zildjian himself will be joined by such internationally acclaimed drummers as Michael Lee (Robert Plant, Plant & Page, The Cult, Thin Lizzy), Steve White (The Style Council, Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene) and Mark Mondesir (Courtney Pine, Julian Joseph, Jeff Beck, The London Symphony Orchestra).
In conjunction with International Zildjian Day, the Irish Drum Academy will hold its Open Day, which will be free to the public later in the afternoon. Led by Dave Hingerty (The Frames, Josh Ritter), Paul Cantwell (Louis Stewart, Frankie Lane) and Ray Fean (Riverdance, Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris), The Irish Drum Academy is the only music school in the country devoted solely to drumming. This year they feature a new Yamaha group drumming class, which is a first for Ireland.
International Zildjian Day: 2pm (tickets cost €10)
Free public open day: 4-6pm
