The Working Title
Workmanlike debut from Dublin pop-rockers
From the get-go, Dublin band Doris’ debut album lays out their stall as mainstream pop-rockers with mild indie sensibilities, and an armful of cute songs decked out in standard-issue guitars and harmonies, so there’s little they do that strays far from the formula. But if you want an album to file beside Picture House, Paddy Casey or The Script, then you’ve come to the right party. The single ‘Will I Ever Learn’ is a fine song with a few U2-isms, ‘On The Tiles’ soars majestically, and ‘Only The Good Ones’ and ‘This Time Of Year’ could play havoc with your heartstrings.
Doris have indeed matured from their folk-rock origins into a more cohesive and bankable unit.
