Panti Bliss says she could be persuaded to run for President.
It's been earning five star reviews left, right and centre and last night The Queen of Ireland had its official premiere in the capital. The documentary, which was directed by former Hot Press snapper Conor Horgan, tells the story Rory O'Neill and his beloved alter ego Panti Bliss, who achieved national treasure status after an impassioned anti-homophobia speech in The Abbey went global and was an inspiring figurehead in the recent fight for Marriage Equality.
The premiere took place at The Lighthouse Cinema and Panti, of course, was out in force, taking to the red carpet in a golden trouser suit as she decided to "dress up like an Oscar statue.
Horgan was also out for the big occasion, along with actress Pauline McGlynn, drag queens Blathnaid McGee, Regina George and Bunny O Hare, and other local celebs.
At a live satellite Q&A after the screening, Bliss confirmed that she was not thinking of running for public office, but could see herself as President of Ireland, alternating between Panti and Rory – "two Presidents for the price of one."
Bliss also expressed the opinion that Ireland had become even more tolerant place since the Marriage Equality referendum.
