The Nolans to be honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award at Irish Entertainment Awards
The Nolans will be honoured alongside Patrick Bergin, Garron Noone, Philomena Begley and Sandy Kelly.
The Nolans are are set to be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at tonight's (October 29) Irish Entertainment Awards.
The award will recognise their six-decade career and contribution to Irish and international entertainment.
The Nolans’ award comes after the passing of sister Linda Nolan, who died in January from double pneumonia and had been living with incurable secondary breast cancer since 2017. Their sister Bernie Nolan passed away from breast cancer in 2013.
“This award means so much to us, especially to remember the legacies of Linda and Bernie," said Anne Nolan.
"They would both have been absolutely thrilled to know that Ireland is celebrating what we achieved together as a family.”
“It’s incredibly touching to be recognised by our home country,” added Maureen and Coleen Nolan.
“Ireland has always been at the heart of everything we’ve done and we still feel that deep connection wherever we perform.”
The sisters rose to fame in the late 70s and early 80s, recording hits like ‘I’m in the Mood for Dancing’ and ‘Gotta Pull Myself Together’.
They remained together until the early 2000s, disbanding in 2005. After re-forming in 2009, they planned a farewell tour for 2013, which was cancelled after the death of Bernie.
The band became one of the world’s best-selling girl groups, they were the first Irish group ever to sell over a million records worldwide and the first European act to win the Tokyo Music Festival with ‘Sexy Music’ in 1981.
Over five decades, The Nolans released 15 studio albums, toured with Frank Sinatra and sold over 30 million records worldwide.
Their appearance at the Irish Entertainment Awards follows Maureen, Denise and Anne's performance at Sheffield City Hall for the Simply The Best cancer fundraiser earlier this month.
Alongside The Nolans, honourees include Patrick Bergin, Garron Noone, Philomena Begley and Sandy Kelly.
