The Nolans reunite for charity concert
They will perform 'Tell Me It's Not True' at Sheffield City Hall on October 4.
The Nolans are reuniting for the first time since the death of their sister and band member Linda.
Maureen, Denise, and Anne will take the stage at Sheffield City Hall on October 4 for the Simply The Best cancer fundraiser.
Dublin-born singer Linda Nolan passed away aged 65 in January, after being admitted for double pneumonia. She had long campaigned for breast cancer awareness.
Linda was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and was given an all-clear in 2011, but in 2017 was diagnosed with a form of incurable secondary breast cancer.
Her younger sister Bernie also died from breast cancer in 2013, aged 52.
Linda and Bernie, along with sisters Denise, Coleen, Maureen, and Anne, formed The Nolans in 1974.
The group rose to fame in the late 70s and early 80s, recording hits like ‘I’m in the Mood for Dancing’ and ‘Gotta Pull Myself Together’.
They remained together until the early 2000s, disbanding in 2005. After re-forming in 2009 they planned a farewell tour for 2013, which was cancelled after Bernie’s death.
They broke many records, becoming one of the world’s best-selling girl groups and the first European act to win the Tokyo Music Festival with ‘Sexy Music’ in 1981.
The upcoming charity gig in Sheffield, founded by the Croke family in memory of Bev Croke, will raise money for BB With Love and Weston Park Cancer Charity.
This marks the fifth and final Simply The Best fundraising event, co-produced by Mrs Croke’s son, The Voice UK singer Matthew Croke.
The Nolans will perform ‘Tell Me It’s Not True’ from the musical Blood Brothers, which earned them a Guinness World Record for the most siblings to play the same role in a musical.
“This will be my first time performing 'Tell Me It’s Not True', which makes it incredibly emotional for me,” Anne said. “To sing it with Denise and Maureen and to know that Bernie and Linda once performed it too will be such a powerful moment for us as sisters.”
Tickets for the event are available here.
A week later, on October 11, The Nolans will appear for a Q&A at the Talking Pictures Festival of Film & TV Roadshow at the Hebden Bridge Picture House in Yorkshire.
