Two Door Cinema Club at The Marquee (Photos)
Two Door Cinema Club brings 'Tourist History' nostalgia to Cork's Live at the Marquee! There is something fundamentally magical about Cork's Live at the Marquee on a balmy June night. Last night, Northern Irish indie royalty Two Door Cinema Club brought their anniversary celebration tour of 'Tourist History' to a packed Leeside tent, and the nostalgia was dripping from the canvas.
Before the headliners took the stage, new indie-rock sensations Florence Road had the task of warming up an already eager crowd. Stepping out into the early evening slot, the band delivered a remarkably tight set characterized by driving basslines and crisp, melodic guitar work all tied together with the incredible voice of lead singer Lily Aron.
When Alex Trimble, Sam Halliday, and Kevin Baird took to the stage under a wash of blinding neon lights, the Marquee erupted. The premise of this 2026 tour is simple but imperative for any devoted indie fan: a full play through of their seminal 2010 debut album Tourist History. From the opening, unmistakable guitar riff of "Cigarettes in the Theatre," the energy inside the tent was dialed up to an eleven. The transition into "Undercover Martyn" caused a near-seismic shift within the Marquee big top, with thousands of voices shouting back every single lyric.
What makes Two Door Cinema Club so captivating live is their clinical precision. Sam Halliday’s intricate, high-fretboard guitar work is mixed so sharp it cuts straight through the heavy bass, sounding completely identical to the record while retaining a raw, live punch. Alex Trimble’s vocals haven't aged a day—effortlessly hitting the falsettos in "Something Good Can Work" while pacing the stage.
Highlights of yet another remarkable Marquee night included "Undercover Martyn" pure, unfiltered nostalgic chaos. The exact moment the entire tent began jumping in unison. "What You Know" The definitive indie anthem of the 2010s. The crowd sang the opening guitar hook louder than the amps. "Sun" A gorgeous, brass-infused reminder of their sonic evolution during the second half of the night.
There were no massive lulls, no self-indulgent extended solos—just 90 minutes of lean, relentless indie-pop perfection. As the crowd poured out onto Monaghan Road and that renowned walk along Centre Park Road back into the city, the collective ringing in everyone's ears was accompanied by a massive, unanimous smile. Two Door Cinema Club proved tonight that great hooks simply don't age.
