The Man From Glasgow
Here’s where, if reading the work of my fellow music journalists has taught me anything, I’m supposed to muse upon the doomed future of indie/guitar/exciting music (different journalists, different terms), and come to the conclusion that such music can no longer compete with Calvin Harris’ customisable anthem-atron. I don’t feel quite like doing that, however, purely because the sounds currently flooding my ear canals are so goddamn cheerful. With their charging guitars and all-conquering ‘Da Da Da’ refrains, The Raglans certainly recall the golden era of indie rock, particularly bands like Dirty Pretty Things and The Pigeon Detectives, but as the Irish summer finally rears its head, I’m finding it fairly difficult to care.
