This group of five young musicians have only been together for three years, but you wouldn’t know that from the fully developed, mature sound of their second album The Landing Step, produced by Trevor Hutchinson. Like its fine predecessor, 2002’s Endeavour, the new CD features some lovely original tunes that display a strong inclination towards syncopated rhythms and unexpected melodic twists and turns. Flute and whistle player Alan Doherty (of Lord Of The Rings soundtrack fame) and fiddler Brendan O’Malley swing along seamlessly together, supported by the band’s two New Zealanders, Andrew Laking and Gerry Paul, on double bass and guitar/bouzouki, respectively, plus singer Anne Marie O’Malley’s bodhrán and assorted guests.
