The Kitchen Recordings with Larry Egan

This solidly traditional CD was recorded, as the title indicates, in Seán O’Driscoll’s kitchen. O’Driscoll has been around the scene for well over two decades – mostly in the States, where he lived for many years and recorded two solo albums; he’s since returned to his native Cork. Accordionist Larry Egan met up with him while attending university there, and despite his relative youth he has an old-fashioned way of playing that’s a good match for O’Driscoll’s steadily-paced, unflashy style on the banjo and bouzouki. They’ve put together an unusual selection of tunes, including quite a few obscure gems and two originals by O’Driscoll – ‘The Muskerry Tram’ and a lovely slow air (rendered on banjo!) called ‘An Gobán Saor’.
