The Gorgeous Colours
Bacharach meets New Wave in Pop heaven
Pop music is nothing to be ashamed of. There’s nothing wrong with liking a decent hook and a backbeat you can dance to, and contrary to televisual evidence, Westlife and Miley Cyrus don’t hold the monopoly on the genre (though Miley’s latest single is ace). Thankfully, Dublin-based five-piece The Gorgeous Colours have realised this too, and created a debut that is as bright and shiny as their moniker suggests. Fusing Bacharach sensibilities with new wave rhythms, this self-titled opus will have you whistling along after the first listen and makes you hopeful that maybe, just maybe, the indie pop tune isn’t dead yet.
