The Divine Comedy releases new single 'The Last Time I Saw The Old Man'
The new single is out now and can be heard below.
Irish singer-songwriter The Divine Comedy (Neil Hannon) has released his new single 'The Last Time I Saw The Old Man'. The song is the second single from his upcoming album Rainy Sunday Afternoon, (out on September 19) with 'Achilles' coming out last April.
“It’s hard to talk about this song too much,” said Hannon. “My kind and intelligent father had Alzheimer’s for the last decade of his life. A cruel and all too usual punishment these days. The lyrics are a simple and unadorned observation of his final year. No profound statements. No poetry. The music does all the emotional heavy lifting. I suppose sometimes you just have to meet painful events head on. In order to accept them and move on.”
The Divine Comedy were formed by Hannon in Enniskillen in 1990. They split and in 1993 Hannon released his first solo album Liberation. The musician won a Choice Music Prize in 2007 for his album Victory For The Comic Muse.
The Divine Comedy will perform at Waterfront Hall, Belfast on Friday March 27, 2026 and at the National Concert Hall, Dublin on Saturday March 28 and Sunday March 29.
His upcoming album Rainy Sunday Afternoon is now available for pre-order and can be found here.
