The Divine Comedy on course to debut at No.3 on the UK Albums Chart with Rainy Sunday Afternoon
Irish band NewDad are also on course for No.21 with Altar.
The Divine Comedy are on course to reach No.3 on the UK Albums Chart with the new album Rainy Sunday Afternoon, according to Album Charts midweek insights. The final UK Album Chart will be available on Friday.
Rainy Sunday Afternoon could be on course to equal The Divine Comedy’s highest-charting record to date, as A Secret History...the Best of the Divine Comedy reached No.3 in 1999.
The band’s 13th record was rated an 8/10 by Hot Press, who called it “perfect symphonic pop.”

Irish band NewDad are also on course to reach No.23, with their new record Altar. It marks the follow-up to their 2024 debut Madra, which Hot Press rated 9/10 upon its release.
NewDad are currently on an extensive world tour which kicked off on July 15 in Shenzen, China and includes dates in Asia, the US, Canada, the UK and Europe, as well as dates in Cork, Galway and Belfast, before culminating with a gig in 3Olympia Theatre in Dublin on October 31.
Most recently, they were announced as part of the lineup for this year’s Coachella festival, alongside fellow Irish acts CMAT and Kettama.
