The Be Good Tanyas back together at last
Samantha Parton and Jolie Holland reunite for a new album
After a hiatus of close to a decade, The Be Good Tanyas are back in action. The two cofounders of the folk band, Jolie Holland and Samantha Parton, are releasing a new album, called Wildflower Blues on 8 September.
The renewed collaboration comes after a hard time for Parton, who had been recovering from two serious car accidents. Parton stated, "I was in this wilderness of health problems. I hadn't been able to do anything musically for three years. When Jolie called me up, I was so sick of lying on my back staring at the ceiling in a doctor's office that I was ready to say 'yes' to anything, whether I could do it or not."
Holland and Parton shared the opening track today — a cover of Townes Van Zandt’s song, ‘You Are Not Needed Now.’ With simple guitar strumming and rich harmonies from Holland and Parton, ‘You Are Not Needed’ is a promising look into the rootsy, Americana album.
