Taylor Swift announces new songs The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore

Taylor Swift has announced she is dropping four new songs on Friday as part of the deluxe version of her most recent album The Life of a Showgirl.

"About a year ago, you guys did a truly unfathomable thing," wrote Swift on her Instagram. Something that completely blew my mind... You gave the Life of a Showgirl the biggest first week for an album in history.

"I took a trip to Sweden to celebrate with Max and Shellback, my two collaborators on the album. Really we just wanted to reflect and take in how grateful we were for the moment we were in, but there was a studio there and we did what we do when we feeling anything at all: We wrote more songs."

Before the original album was released, Swift said it would have 12 tracks, with no additional songs coming. The day after its release, however, she announced four limited-edition CDs featuring additional versions of songs from the album and a songwriting voice memo.

Swift has a track record of expanding albums after their release. In 2022, she added seven tracks to Midnights three hours after it came out, while in 2024 she expanded The Tortured Poets Department to 31 tracks just two hours after its release.

Swift released The Life of a Showgirl last October, and it became the global best-selling album of 2025.

On Tuesday, the pop star announced a new single, 'Patient Zero', out September 25. This came after she was at the centre of numerous online theories earlier this week after she changed her Instagram bio, replacing the letter o with zeros and launching a countdown for 7 pm on Tuesday - when she revealed the news.

On Sunday, Swift will receive the inaugural artist director honour at the MTV Music Awards (VMAs). She is also nominated for 11 other awards, including for best album with The Life of a Showgirl, artist of the year, video of the year, best pop, best art direction, best cinematography, best editing, best choreography, best visual effects, song of the summer for 'I Knew It, I Knew You' and best direction for 'Opalite'.
