Tame Impala Review
Cue spooky Dr Who music! The Olympia felt like it was in a time warp as Tame Impala delivered a set which could have come to us straight from the 1970s.
The band were fashionably late, casual in t-shirts and jeans, and with long unkempt hair. Leading them was the barefooted Kevin Parker. Their psychedelic rock transported the crowd back to a time of free love, wanton tree hugging and saying “man” over and over, man. Accompanied by a kaleidoscopic light show they opened with eight songs, no less, from latest album Lonerism. The highpoint was single ‘Elephant’, which memorably featured on the hit TV show Girls.
However, it was a rare stand-out moment as one ‘groovy’ tune flowed into another. The biggest problem is the outfit’s lack of charisma. Forty years ago, this sort of free-floating rock might have cast a spell. In 2013, however, audiences demand more.
