The Saw Doctors announce show at Virgin Media Park for July 2027

The Saw Doctors have announced a show at Virgin Media Park, Cork on Saturday, July 3, 2027. The show will celebrate 40 years as a touring band, and will feature special guests The Stunning.

They performed a memorable show at Electric Picnic in August, bringing out the All Ireland-winning Mayo gaelic football team to sing 'The Green and Red of Mayo', in front of 50,000 fans. The song became an unofficial anthem for Co. Mayo following their All Ireland victory, and reached No. 1 on Spotify's Irish chart.

The band returned to Mayo for the first time in fifteen years, for a gig at the TF Royal Hotel and Theatre in Castlebar on September 4 and 5.

The band's songwriting duo are Davy Carton (lead vocals) and Leo Moran (electric guitar). They recently welcomed back one of their founding band members Pearse Doherty on bass guitar, vocals, penny whistle and wooden flute.

The eight man lineup includes members Rickie O’Neill (drums), Kieran Duddy (keyboards and accordion) and Tommy Carton (backing vocals) as well as acclaimed sidemen, Anthony Thistlethwaite (saxophone, formerly of The Waterboys) and Noelie McDonnell (guitar and backing vocals, The Whileaways).

The Saw Doctors 1990 single 'I Useta Lover' became a surprise No. 1 Irish hit, and remained top of the charts for nine weeks. The song went on to become the best-selling Irish single ever. Their debut album If This Is Rock ’n’ Roll, I Want My Old Job Back has sold half a million copies worldwide. The album features their hit song 'N17', named after the Galway to Sligo road.

Moran reflects on the band's 40-year career:

"Born into a repressed, catholic, conservative, small-town, agrarian, angst-ridden & showband infested society, The Saw Doctors are trying to preserve the positive elements of our Irish background and marry them to the sounds which have culturally invaded our milieu through TV, radio, social media, 45’s, fast food restaurants, 24-hour petrol stations & electric blankets."
