Sunflower Nights
Nostalgia ahoy from legendary Dublin pub
Legendary Dublin venue The Sunflower has seen an incredible range of talent come through its doors over the years, especially during its heyday in the 1970s and 1980s. In recent years, many of the bands who reigned supreme back then have reformed, returning to the scene of the crime for some nostalgic evenings. This collection, recorded live at the Mount Merrion venue (now trading as Kiely’s) features most of them. Highlights are way too many to mention but some of them include Full Circle (‘High School Confidential’), Rocky De Valera and the Gravediggers (‘Peter Gunn Theme’), The Bogey Boys (‘Madison Blues’), Stepaside (‘Get Out Of Dublin’) and Rob Strong (‘Hollywood Nights’).
Also worth hearing are Katmandu’s versions of Roxy’s ‘Virginia Plain’ and Bowie’s ‘Heroes’, Jump The Gun’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and Fit Kilkenny & The Remoulds’ ‘Let’s Hear You Sing’.
The raw recording captures the atmosphere of the venue and with proceeds going to the Irish Hospice Foundation, it’s a case of good choons for a good cause.
