Sun Kil Moon to perform at Liberty Hall Theatre in May
Mark Kozelek's confessional indie folk act will take the stage in Dublin early next summer.
Sun Kil Moon, the ruminating folk group helmed by Mark Kozelek, announced this morning that they will play Liberty Hall Theatre on 23 May 2020. Billed as "An Intimate Evening with Mark Kozelek," the show will include both Sun Kil Moon material and selections from Kozelek's collaborative works, including this year's Joey Always Smiled, a joint album by Kozelek and Petra Haden.
"I don’t recall a time on this record where either of us told the other what to do," Kozelek said of the collaboration in an interview for Talkhouse. "There was nothing but support for each other’s work all throughout."
Kozelek rose to prominence in the early '90s as a founder of San Francisco slowcore act Red House Painters. After the group's eventual disbandment, Kozelek assembled Sun Kil Moon with drummer Anthony Koutsos alongside new collaborators. Their debut album, Ghosts of the Great Highway, arrived in 2003. The band would become a vessel for Kozelek's increasingly autobiographical and narrative-driven music, which enjoyed universal attention and acclaim following the release of 2014's Benji, an album that heavily featured this musical style.
Every year since 2014 has seen a release from Sun Kil Moon, the latest being this year's I Also Want to Die in New Orleans. Though the next Sun Kil Moon record has not yet been announced, 2020 will bring Mark Kozelek with Ben Boye and Jim White 2, a sequel to the trio's collaborative effort from 2017.
The Liberty Hall Theatre show will follow a performance in Bangor on 22 May.
Tickets for Sun Kil Moon cost €28.50 and go on sale at 9 a.m. this Friday 1 November. They can be found at selectivememory.ie. This will be a fully seated show.
