Indie artist writes "LORD JESUS HAVE MERCY" after listening to Perry's 'Witness'
You know something’s weird when indie artist Sufjan Stevens (who has been known to perform in massive angel wings and disco ball costumes, mind you) remarks “LORD JESUS HAVE MERCY.” After listening to Katy Perry’s song ‘Déjà Vu,’ off her new album, Witness, the alternative artist wrote on Tumblr:
"Your words are like Chinese water torture..."
literal
lyrics
from
the
new
Katy
Perry
album
LORD JESUS HAVE MERCY.”
He then references his own lyrics from ‘Casimir Pulaski Day’ in comparison with Perry’s, writing,
“And y'all thought it was weird when I wrote, "Tuesday night at the Bible study...."
Lord Jesus.
Katy Perry was probably at THAT SAME BIBLE STUDY.
We probably did popcorn prayer together.
I love this world.”

Steven’s humorous criticism is probably not the worst Katy Perry has faced this week. After a confusing 72-hour live stream aimed to promote Witness, the album received underwhelming reviews.
Who knows? Maybe next year Perry and Stevens will end up collaborating over popcorn prayer to create some wild collaboration album. For now, we must be satisfied imagining the endless, bizarre possibilities of that duo.
