So I
New singer-songwriter on the block stakes his claim
Fiach’s unusual name carries connotations of artistic rebelliousness (Google past and present ‘Fiachs’ and you’ll see what I mean), and his musical style follows suit. So I is a well-rounded, varied, highly accomplished record whose eleven tracks reveal an exceptionally talented songwriter and guitarist. On top of this, Fiach has an unusually beautiful voice. His range is wide, his tuning is pitch-perfect and his breath is strong, resulting in great vocal control, verve and modulation. In a beat, Fiach can move from a tunefully passionate howl to sweet low melancholy. With vocal talent of this calibre, he can afford to be daring and experimental, both musically and lyrically. This keeps the listener’s ear tuned in.
Instrumentally as well as vocally, So I is exceptionally resonant and richly textured, with strings bringing a sense of the sublime to several tracks. Wonderful.
