Sigur Rós announce Belfast and Dublin shows with the Ulster Orchestra
Tickets go on sale on Friday, March 20, at 10 am, on Ticketmaster.ie.
Sigur Rós have announced that they will be performing with The Ulster Orchestra in Belfast and Dublin this September.
The Icelandic post-rock band will perform at the Waterfront Hall, Belfast, on September 4, and at Dublin's Bord Gáis Energy Theatre on September 6 and 7.
The shows are part of the band's world tour in support of their eighth studio album ÁTTA (2023), which translates to "Eight". Elsewhere, the shows are said to include renditions of fan favourite tracks from their extensive catalogue.
Sigur Rós were formed in 1994 in Reykjavík, Iceland, as a quartet. The group became a trio in 2013 after keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson left, and later, in 2019, a duo with the departure of drummer Orri Páll Dýrason.
In 2022, Sveinsson returned to the group to create ÁTTA and, last year, the band's TAKK celebrated its 20th anniversary.
"It is weird to think that some guys from Iceland who sing in Icelandic and some nonsense language are able to play all over the world and have so many people want to come and see us," said guitarist Jónsi.
"There are no lyrics or stories for people to hold on to. It's more about pure emotions that people experience from the music."
Tickets will be available on Friday, March 20, at 10 am here.
